Applied Community Interpreting

Build the skills to support communication across our communities

Our Applied Community Interpreting programme is a 12-week programme for bilingual speakers who want to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to work as community interpreters.

Community interpreters play an important role in helping people access essential services, understand information and have their voices heard. Through our programme, we support learners to build a strong foundation in the skills, professional standards and ethical responsibilities needed for interpreting work.

During the programme, you will develop practical interpreting skills, including memory techniques, note-taking, managing terminology and creating your own glossaries. You will also learn about cultural awareness, confidentiality, accuracy and the importance of professional boundaries.

Our programme includes practical activities using examples from a range of community settings, including health, immigration, law and other public services. We will also share tools and approaches to support your ongoing learning and development as an interpreter.
