Applied Community Interpreting

Applied Community Interpreting: This 12-week course is designed to train bilingual speakers in the skills and standards necessary to work as interpreters. Students will learn techniques for improving memorization, note-taking, and compiling glossaries of specialised terminology. The ethical aspects of the profession are presented and their practical implications for working interpreters are discussed. The workshop includes practice with texts from general areas as well as from specialized fields such a medicine, immigration and law. Techniques to monitor progress will also be presented so that students can continue developing their professional skills after completing the course.

Learning Outcomes

​Learners who successfully complete the workshop will learn:

  • Ethics of interpreting

  • Building glossaries of key vocabulary

  • Professional practice in community interpreting

  • Familiarity of work as an interpreter

Fee: is $300+GST

Attendance: 80% is required as a condition for successful completion.
