Chief Executive

Susan Knox
Susan is a leader dedicated to making systems work better for communities as the Chief Executive of Interpreting New Zealand.She brings experience across government, academic, and for-purpose sectors, with a focus on delivery, transformation, and system leadership. A former midwife, she has worked in the Scottish NHS, public health systems, and the community and volunteer development sector, giving her hands-on insight into frontline services and community engagement.
As tangata Tiriti, Susan grounds her leadership in partnership, equity, and social justice. She is committed to strengthening systems so they serve communities fairly and inclusively, particularly those who rely on interpreting services.
Alongside her executive role, Susan is a health services researcher. She is a recipient of the Dame Joan Metge and Professor Charmian J O’Connor Post Doctoral Research Award and contributes to the science sector as part of Te Pūnaha Matatini, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Centre of Research Excellence in complex systems.
She also draws on structured project management expertise through her PRINCE2 Foundation training, supporting a practical and accountable approach to delivering results.
