Workshop

Applied Community Interpreting is a twelve week part-time training workshop designed to facilitate community interpreting, The course prepares bilingual speakers for interpreting work in sectors such as health, justice, tourism and community services.

 

The workshop is delivered online and in-person. Learners are expected to spend up to 8 hours a week on learning. There are three intakes per year.

 

Applied Community Interpreting is recognised by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Learners who successfully complete the workshop will be offered employment as an interpreter.

Learning Outcomes

Learners who successfully complete the workshop will learn:

  • Intercultural competency
  • Ethics of interpreting
  • Building glossaries of key vocabulary
  • Professional practice in community interpreting
  • Familiarity of work as an interpreter

Enrolment

The next intake commences in 2024

Online: Tuesday (6pm to 8pm) & Thursday (6pm to 7pm)

In-person: Two face-to-face tutorials in your city location

Attendance of 80% is expected as condition of successful completion

The workshop fees are $600+GST (Scholarships are available on application)
